The National Universities' Polo Tournament took place at Inglesham Polo Club near Oxford last week. Three teams from St Andrews participated in the beginners and novice sections. The Beginners team, consisting of Andy Macias (C), Mary Wilkinson and Adrian de Mountfalcon, played well in their debut outing with Adrian scoring some impressive penalties.
In the next category up, the Novice B team (Kirsty Buchan (C), Octavia Pollock and Sabrina Heerema-Agostino) came 11th out of 14. Despite some directional confusion in their final match, they were still placed ahead of their local rivals Edinburgh. The Novice A team finished third overall, marking the club's highest result to date. Vicky Woodhead (C), Ali Rea and Ellie Hoogewerf displayed some spirited teamwork to defeat their opponents, with Vicky scoring 10 goals. To round off the tournament, St Andrews was awarded the inaugural sportsmanship trophy for fair play and good conduct on the pitch.
Meanwhile, club captain Robert Morrison had the honour of representing Scotland in an invitational, medium goal match in Ghana, where he rode alongside leading Scottish players.
The promise showed over the last months highlights the increasing success of this new club created in 2002.
